I am new to the Mauser in general so I'm not familiar with what should be marked where and what it means. I found the manufacture from the bcd code and the date obviously is 1943.The easiest way to tell the difference at a glance between the refurbed K98k and the M48 is to look at the handguard. The refurbed K98k used the original handguard that extended from the lower band to the front of the rear sight base. The M48 handguard extended full length to the front of the receiver ring.

Re: Mauser action rifle identification. It is a Small Ring. The pictures you need to take are of the top of the front portion of the reciever. Also you can measure the front of the reciever ring and if it is 1.4ish it is a large ring. If it is 1.3ish it is a small ring. Also measure the reeciever stock screws.
