Even if I grab the first crafting ability "Build Weapons" there is still no way to improve or build a melee weapon. Any help? You need 3 same type weapon and then you can craft that in anvil. I am standing in front of the unoccupied anvil at Lasse's station with 1 point in Build Weapons and there is no option. I have 3 of several weapons.

had to redo my amazing first run at getting the op bow....that footage was lost so heres a rather slower version of the run i did :Damage doesn't matter in late game at all. Every weapon deals enough damage to win easily. It is more about using what feels good to you. If you are going for maximum damage, than use bow as a berserker in Elex 1, laser rifle as outlaw/cleric in Elex 1, or shotgun (every faction) in Elex 2.
