In 5E, dual wielding just means you get an extra attack in a round with the off-hand weapon, as a bonus action. The game just does this for you automatically when you use a normal main hand attack. Right now dual longswords gives you: 1d8 (attack) + 1d8 (extra attack) + 1d8 (offhand attack) = 3-24 damage. This costs an action and a bonus action. Greatsword gives you: 2d6 (attack) + 2d6 (extra attack) = 4-24 damage. This only costs an action.
