Cosmic egg will save you some health and give you better chances of getting a better boon, and when using guan yu you always want to take the soul boon (increases max health). When grabbing hammers, always grab the ones that increase spin attack range, size or charge speed, as these will aid you in healing mid fight (could save you a life).

The best hammer for guan yu is the fast spin/recovery by far just because of how vital healing is with the low health pool. I’d usually also go for larger spins to hit more opponents = healing more. Since those attacks hit repeatedly I usually try to go Zeus or dio on attack. Just to have that extra splashing/stacking damage.

I think Guan Yu is more reliant on hammers than any other weapon. Maxed level isn’t massively more health than low level but still max it if you plan on using it, Titan blood is plentiful. Athena and grind for some more blood. Guan Yu is kinda trash until you max it out because the passive of less health is a run killer if you aren’t careful. Really hard to use without upgrading imo.Visually, the Guan Yu spear is gorgeous, and the VFX and SFX are fantastic. I particularly love the soft note that plays whenever you launch the spin attack. The slower attack speed and unique spin attack make the weapon feel very different from the other spear aspects in a way that other weapon aspects often fail to do.
Guan Yu is also used for hitless runs, which shows that it's got the DPS and safety for it to be good. Achilles should be top tier if anything lmao. Proper damage rotation means a constant uptime of the 150% damage boost. Extremely good for speed, heat is a bit more difficult but it's doable. The spin attack is bait that you should only really use outside of boss fights to regen a bit off easy enemies. There's a 32 heat guan yu build I used but it revolved around lightning rod to damage Hades while I repositioned. Get yourself massive spin and/or quick spin. These help negate the 50% nerf to your health. The special is pretty OP once you get a decent boon on it. I personally like Zeus or Poseidon on it.
