I am making a Tiefling Artificer (battlesmith)/wizard (bladesong) multi-class in my sisters campaign. She has a thing for birds. She has a crow familiar named "shade" (may change it to splat), but she will have a homunculus servant thats an owl, and a Steel Defender that looks like a secretary bird (about 4ft tall flightless bird).
Another fun thing you can do is give your spell storing item to your homunculus and have it cast a solid consentration spell like Web at the start of a fight and in later rounds use your Bonus action to use the cannon while the homunculus moves around.
