The model 51 has a reputation for not working very well. They tend to break down and not function 100%. It is probably NOT a gun you want to bet your life on. I am an Ithaca fan, but the 51 was not thier best work.
I have yet to see a 51 target gun (the only models that have hand cut checkering) with a mod choke or a slug barrel. If it is a target model (deluxe skeet) it will be skeet choked with a 26" vent rib barrel. If it is a target model (deluxe trap) it will be full choked with a 30" vr barrel.
