They should enable multi zombie push but have the option of extremely limited multi-hit as well. Spears can most definitely multi-hit, but it is extremely rare even then. Perhaps a sprint into a group of zombies could have a slightly larger impact at the obvious high cost of your fatigue.

Knowing how to adjust your position among the zombies makes possible to fight 6~8 zombies at the same time if you are using blades, spears or axes. Multi hit is vastly overrated. With short blunt you can only hit like 2 max. Even with a long weapon you still are only able to hit like 3 at a time. Taking on a hoard is still very challenging. Short blunts are abundant and gives you a very strong start to the game if you pick construction worker. However they lack the damage or the range of axes and long blunts. Spears are a gimmick, but they work well with low strength - fitness characters due to one hit kill. Never bothered with knives after build 41 landed.
