Well, it's a DEF pump bad, or possibly in the harness or connector for the pump. The DEF pump, working or not, has nothing to do with the trans though. And, looks like you're out of warranty, so don't take it to the dealer, a good independent shop is the best bet to get it fixed.

Once the DEF's contracted back by turning back fully to liquid, the message goes away because the sensor is no longer tripped.
