Possibly my favourite alto - wonderful rich tone and excellent intonation - but then it has been expertly set up. I paid less than $1,300.00 for it.

The normal (as far as I know) black nickel saxophone finish is an extremely thin layer of actual plating, probably the thinnest of all platings used in sax finishes. The story goes that he played it for one year in high school and gave up, and recently rediscovered it in the basement after 43 years.It's fun and easy to play and helps with learning fingerings, reading music, figuring out songs and tounging. If you ever try to play a real sax, your sound and embouchure is like 70% of playing and you won't be developing that on the 120. That is, a 1/8" or 5mm or whatever movement of the mpc, whether in (sharper) or out (flatter) will affect the high tones far more than the bottom end of the horn. The higher you go, the more distorted the effect of mpc position on tuning of the notes.The AWO1 is a really free blower, and easier to play overall. The tone is a more focused and intonation is spot-on with minimal adjustment on my end. My wife commented that I look much more comfortable playing the AWO1. Finish on the AWO1 is excellent overall. High overtones are more like whistling through the sax than anything else. The 62 can be pretty bright depending on your disposition and the era of the sax. The 82Z is a darker sound than the 62 and blows a lot freer than the SX90. All 3 are good, usable saxes and solid for learning on. The OD of the Selmer bass neck that fits the Selmer Bass mouthpiece is 0.700". This is slightly larger in diameter than most of the vintage bass instruments that are more common. These instruments' necks will often accept the slightly smaller neck diameter of baritone mouthpieces.With the 55 tenor now firmly in his clutches, I'm off to find one of my own and maybe a 55 alto for his next birthday.
