Axes have decent durability, good repair ability/good occupation and a hand axe+axeman is the best 1 handed backup weapon. +2 to axes and they’re easy as hell to level from day 1. Long blade is fantastic but simply to rare to main. Axes hit that sweet spot between very strong/not too rare/not too flimsy.
Then repair it to half with some duct tape and boom 100+ more kills ready to go if lucky. the nailed plank is best weapon, with broom and plunger taking 2nd and 3rd. Crowbar is the best because crowbar wont surprisingly break in the middle of a loot run. Get axeman, good fitness and strength then you'll be unstoppable. Spears are the best melee weapons overall imo. Crafted spear break easily without some advanced skills but that's what spears with attached weapons are for. I think that the best weapon strategy is to carry two short blunts on your belt and a long blunt or a machete on your back. I mean you always have a hammer on your belt anyways, it's a good backup weapon. I like to equip the spear in my hands, and when it breaks I have a crowbar or baseball bet on my back, a hammer and a pipe wrench on my belt.

A spear can multi hit. Basically any weapon CAN multi-hit but you might have too literally be inside a zombie to hit another one. It definitely depends on the weapon. I don't think it has been listed anywhere clearly, but you can check each of the weapons on the wiki, the code at the bottom will tell you.
