So after a little cutting grinding and fitting this is what I ended up with. It was brown but like the black better so I painted it with plastic paint.Now, turn the barreled receiver right side up. Take that curved 2" piece of rod and slide the flattened end in front of the receiver and down under the rear of the handguard. That's why we need the slight curvature. Push or tap it in just enough that the rear of the handguard is lifted off the barrel.Handguards include instructions and heatshields. I have walnut handguards on both my M1A's. One I got from Fulton and one came with the gun, it is a Springfield handguard and very nice. The one I got from Fulton is thinner and I had to take a little wood off the back by the bolt or the bolt closing would have split the wood.
