I was trying to make a zipline a similar length to a similar spot and couldn't get it to be unobstructed until I realized i was trying to connect to the side of my home zipline anchor. I made a new one facing where I was trying to zipline from and it worked. My conclusion was you can't connect to the side of the anchor.

Using ziplines doesn't require stamina or anything, it's a passive ride. The major limiting factor on their usage is angle of descent - the steeper the incline, the faster you move. If it isn't steep, expect a leisurely pace.

My current plan is to build a main base on the wooden posts by the field station left of the oak tree. Anywhere central on the map is probably the best bet, but also having some smaller outposts in each of the harder areas isn't a bad idea. Personally, didn't start over, but the story did restart.
